Exhibition: Until The Quiet Comes

"La mostra parla di un tempo sospeso fatto di lunghi silenzi e consapevoli distanze. La sensazione di inquietudine che le immagini trasmettono ci conduce al desiderio che spinge lə artistə a ricercare una rivelazione in luoghi lontani dalla realtà quotidiana. La presenza umana compare nella natura solo come un’eco. La luce, materia viva utilizzata per trasfigurare la realtà, diventa presagio di una tempesta in arrivo. La quiete arriverà?"

Gaia Amorello

Until the quiet comes is an exhibition curated by Gaia Amorello for Centrale Festival 2022, held in Fano from 10th June to 26th June. I was selected to be part of it together with two other young photographers: Giacomo Alberico and Francesca Macis. We were asked to work with Gaia in order to design our exhibition at Rocca Malatestiana, an ancient Renaissance military fortress from the fifteenth century. We had to face several humidity issues due to the fact that the cells of the castle were very damp, but we did eventually find some solutions to that.

My work Isola was chosen to be exhibited with the works of Giacomo Alberico (Untitled, that deals with a mysterious lake in Abruzzo, the Sirente Crater, which was allegedly created after the impact of a meteor) and Francesca Macis (Il giorno in cui si spense il sole, that is "the day the sun went off", which is set in a post-apocalyptic scenario caused by an ecological catastrophe). Surprisingly, our photos were perfect to be part of a same visual discourse, as they related very well. The snow and the craters of Mount Etna would communicate with Giacomo's Mount Sirente, as well as my fire would continue with Francesca's sunset. Plus, we all dealt with parallel worlds, or even other planets' hypothetical landscapes. Distance, mystery and disquietude were the keywords that linked our photos. Finally, all our stories conveyed a sense of magic and anxiety.
